About British Wild Flower Plants

We are a specialist propagator growing over 300 species of native British plants. We grow plants from our own seed collections or with full UK origin and provenance complying with the Flora Locale code of practice.

Vast expertise has been generated since 1986 to grow even the most challenging of species and our plants are available for most of the year.

We have been growing in a peat free compost since 1991 and where possible we only use biological methods of pest control.

Provenance

Provenance of wild plants has become increasingly important in recent years. We use only guaranteed native seed. In many cases we have collected the original seed ourselves and can be certain of its origin. Where local provenance is is needed, we can offer a seed collection service and contract growing of plants from the selected seed. This method also enables specifiers to have grown, species normally unobtainable commercially. The initial costs of seed collection can often be off-set against the lower cost of contract grown plants. Some forward planning is necessary - seed collected in summer will take approximately 6-9 months to produce plants ready for planting out the following spring, but you do get the plants you want, when you want them!

Consultancy

In addition to seed collection and contract growing, we also offer a consultancy service, site visits and botanical surveys throughout Britain. Recent projects include coastal reclamation schemes, roadside verge planting on major new road developments, marginal plants for new reservoirs and planting schemes for local authorities, schools and private gardeners wishing to enhance their garden's wildlife potential
